The museum has increased in size from its original 10,080 square feet to more than 100,000-square-feet today, with 45,000 square feet of exhibition space. The Bowers serves more than 80,000 school children annually through docent guided tours, community outreach programs, and participatory art classes.
Oct 10, 2005 · It is the second expansion since 1988, when the museum closed for a four-year, $12-million renovation that nearly doubled Bowers’ size to its current 114,500 square feet.
In the past 15 years the museum has: produced more than 50 special exhibitions, many of which traveled nationally or internationally; published more than 24 exhibition catalogues; and increased its facility size from 7,000 square feet to its current size of 93,000+ square feet.
The Bowers campus includes 100,000 square feet of space surrounded by lush gardens, including a 296-seat auditorium, 12,000 square feet of event space, a Patina-owned Tangata restaurant, a robust gallery store, eight permanent exhibitions and spectacular featured exhibits on rotation so that each visit will be new and engaging.
