A landlocked country is a country that is entirely bordered by land and has no access to marine water bodies. South America has 12 sovereign states and of the 12, only two are landlocked: Bolivia and Paraguay.

South America has two landlocked countries, Bolivia and Paraguay. Bolivia is bordered by Brazil to the north, Peru to the east, Paraguay to the southeast, Chile to the west, and Argentina to the south. Paraguay has Bolivia to its northwest, Brazil to its east, and Argentina to the southwest.

Countries such as Kazakhstan, in Central Asia, that only have access to a landlocked sea such as the Caspian are.
Depending on the status of Kazakhstan and the South Caucasian countries, Asia has between 9 and 13 (including South Ossetia). South America only has two landlocked countries: Bolivia and Paraguay. Australia and North America have no landlocked countries, while Antarctica has no countries at all.
Austria is bordered by Germany to the northwest, the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia to the northeast, Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west.
