- Austroasiatic Non-Vietic (Mon – Khmer) Group. Mon – Khmer group has 21 ethnicities, most settling in Tay Nguyen – the Western Highlands region of Vietnam – or the Northwest region.
- Hmong – Mien (Mong – Dao) Group. Mong, Dao, and Pa Then are three ethnicities in this group. They all originated in China and immigrated to Vietnam several centuries ago.
