And I get that it could be many people that took the shot, however I believe it was the godfather. He has an attachment to Lucas son, he tells him when Lucas goes to court that "no matter what happens he will take care of him". When Lucas is burying his dog, he doesn't even ask him how the dog died or look suprised.
