James B. Weaver (1833–1912) was a prominent and well-respected member of the Populist Party. A brevet brigadier general in the Civil War, a lawyer, and an agrarian reformer, Weaver represented Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives and was twice a presidential nominee, running in 1880 under the Greenback Party banner and as a Populist in 1892.
