Jonas Bronck (alternatively Jonas Jonsson Brunk, Jonas Jonasson Bronk, or Jonas Jonassen Bronck) (around 1600 – 1643) was an immigrant to the Dutch colony of New Netherland after whom the Bronx River, and by extension, the county and New York City borough of the Bronx are named.

Feb 17, 2016 · Jonas Bronck’s Beer Company was founded in The Bronx, New York in 2011 by Steve Nallen. Nallen was an accountant for MTV, and had done accounting work for Bronx Brewery in the past. He also had an interest in home brewing and Bronx history.

Jonas Bronck (1600-1643), our first modern settler, brewed; Jacobus van Cortlandt (1658-1739), father of future New York City mayor (1791), who built the Bronx’ oldest standing building, the Van Cortlandt House, brewed too. Most housewives brewed at home for their families.
In true 21st-century NYC fashion, his legacy lives on in a craft brewery called the Jonas Bronck Beer Company. 1693. King's Bridge is built. The borough's oldest bridge was constructed in the late 17th century and connected modern-day Manhattan to the Bronx. The bridge is long gone, but its name lives on in the neighborhood of—duh—Kingsbridge. 1748
