As "Last Summer" opens we are introduced to three affluent teenagers, two boys and a girl, who are spending the summer on Fire Island with their parents. Sandy, the girl, is more familiar and experienced with sex than the boys, or so she would have them believe.
Prior to the re-rating, the X-rated version of Last Summer was screened out-of-competition at the Cannes Film Festival, the 21 May 1969 NYT noted. Although the film received mixed reviews, Cathy Burns was honored with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
