1848: J. W. McCoy Stoneware Company Established
McCoy Pottery dates back to 1848 when William Nelson McCoy founded J. W. McCoy Stoneware Company.
April 1910: Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Company Established
With the help of his father (J.W. McCoy), Nelson McCoy together with 5 other stockholders decided to rebrand the original J. W. McCoy Stoneware Company into Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Company. Established in Roseville, Ohio, the new company focused on the production of utilitarian stoneware. The company operated independently until 1918.
1918: The Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Company Becomes Part of the ACPC
Between 1910 and 1918, Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Company was also mining, buying, and selling clay. At around 1918, the pottery company joined with 11 other stoneware potteries to create what was known as the American Clay Products Company (ACPC). The ACPC thrived until 1926 when it was liquidated.
