Michael Rooker is an American actor who portrayed Merle Dixon in AMC's The Walking Dead. Michael Rooker was born in 1955 in Jasper, Alabama. When he was 13, his parents divorced and he went with his mother to live in Chicago.
On the television front, Rooker is best known for his series regular role as Merle Dixon on AMC's hit series The Walking Dead (2010). Audiences loved to hate the ill-tempered redneck hunter and were sad to see him killed off the series in season three.
He first rose to prominence for portraying Henry in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), and is best known for starring as Merle Dixon in the AMC series The Walking Dead (2010–2013) and as Yondu Udonta in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), followed by its sequels Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).

Rooker received high praise for his striking performance in the critically acclaimed Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Born in Jasper, AL, Rooker moved with his family to Chicago in the mid-1960s. He earned his B.F.A. from the Goodman School of Drama at De Paul University in Chicago.
