Lots of the mumsnet left hate even the idea of the school (along with hating JK, Peterson, and anything else that the left hates). If you want to get a real feel - go visit.
Mar 20, 2019 · The picture painted of the Michaela Community School is awe inspiring. It is the kind of school that many teachers would like to work at or send their children to. The exceptionally high standards for children alongside methods that maintain work life balance for teachers, is something all schools should aspire to.
I think there are two things that really set Michaela apart, and it isn't the discipline or pedagogy. It's the relentless focus on making the most effective use of the time available from the top down, and the willingness to abandon things that aren't working. The discipline and the pedagogy flow from there, not the other way around.

In March 2017 I had the pleasure of visiting Michaela Community School, observing two French lessons and chatting with the French staff. I wrote about their approach, originally developed by Barry Smith, in this blog and in a chapter in my book Becoming an Outstanding Languages Teacher.
