When first drafted, M felt as if they didn't fit in, being forced to choose between either basic training with the women or weapons-building with the men. Sarah Alder noticed them and encouraged them to go for War College, seeing them for what they were.
M is assigned to the protection detail of President Kelly Wade. Their ability to sense danger proves most useful, allowing the witches to sense assassination attempt and put in place a plan to replace Kelly Wade with a golem duplicate created by Izadora. Wade survives the assassination attempt and goes into hiding in the Chippewa Cession, guided by M. On the way back to the United States, the Cession Marshalloses control, but Wade is again saved by M, who brings her to refuge in a safe house.
