The NASW Code of Ethics is a set of standards that guide the professional conduct of social workers. The 2021 update includes language that addresses the importance of professional self-care. Moreover, revisions to Cultural Competence standard provide more explicit guidance to social workers.

Philosophers construe normativity as the characteristic common to everything that appears on the ‘ought’ sides of the distinction between ‘what is’ and ‘what ought to be’ ( Dancy, 2000 ).

Normative ethics is the study of ethical behaviour and is the branch of philosophical ethics that investigates questions regarding how one ought to act, in a moral sense.
