Abbott was pitching coach of the Worcester Red Sox in 2021-2022. Abbott's son, Lance, pitched at Fullerton College from 2006-2007 before transferring to Sacramento State and pitched one year in the minors. His other son, Trent, was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2007 .
