The Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls (Italian: Basilica Papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura) is one of Rome's four major papal basilicas, along with the basilicas of Saint John in the Lateran, Saint Peter's, and Saint Mary Major, as well as one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome.
Erected during the fourth century AD, the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls (Basilica di San Paolo Fuori le Mura) is one of the four major basilicas of Rome, and the second largest after St. Peter's Basilica. It was founded on the burial ground of St. Paul.
Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls constitutes an extra-territorial complex (Motu Proprio by Pope Benedict XVI, 30 May 2005), administered by an Archpriest. In addition to the Papal Basilica, the entire complex includes a very ancient Benedictine Abbey, restored by Odon of Cluny in 936.

Numerous parishioners and pilgrims flood into the church to receive absolution during the ritual of Holy Door opening.
Location: As the name implies, the Basilica is outside of the old city walls and a bit removed from the other major Basilicas but certainly worthy of any visit to Rome. And “outside the walls” is a relative term: it is only 5 miles from the Vatican. There is a metro stop nearby, Basilica S. Paolo.
