Plot. The Enterprise is ordered on a priority mission to collect a member of Starfleet Intelligence: Admiral Erik Pressman ( Terry O'Quinn ), former Captain of the USS Pegasus, where Will Riker ( Jonathan Frakes) first served after graduating from Starfleet Academy.
(Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion (3rd ed., p. 277)) This is the first Star Trek episode since TOS: "The Enterprise Incident" in which the Enterprise uses a cloaking device. The episode finally provides a canon explanation for why the Federation doesn't use these devices.
Jan 10, 1994 · The next morning, the Enterprise returns to the asteroid to find the Pegasus. Deep inside, they find the ship is still intact, appearing embedded in the rock. Pressman overrules Picard's order for an away team and beams just himself and Riker over. In engineering, Pressman finds the experiment, fully intact.
Admiral Eric Pressman (Terry O'Quinn) is posted to the Enterprise on a provisional basis to oversee the search for the wreckage of the missing USS Pegasus, the ship he commanded 12 years ago before it was lost (and, until recently, presumably destroyed, along with most of its crew) in a calamitous accident.
