Services. This theatre, inaugurated on August 12, 1900, is the first professional French-speaking theatre in America. The Théâtre National was designed by the architect Victor Louis and had a capacity of 2,300 spectators. The theatre was demolished in 1820, and its former site is now the Square Louvois.

Lors de son ouverture en 1900, le Théâtre National était le tout premier théâtre professionnel francophone à voir le jour. Dans les années 1960 à 1980, le Théâtre National est devenu un cinéma à vocations diverses (d'abord cinéma de quartier, puis cinéma chinois et ensuite, cinéma gai) avant de recommencer à présenter divers spectacles et concerts vers la fin des années 1990.
