The story mainly focuses on the three main women in his life. First his wife Jean (Anna Friel), his girlfriend Amber (Tamsin Egerton) , who later changes her name to Fiona Richmond when she becomes a famous model, and his daughter Debbie (wonderfully played by Imogen Poots).

That their performances survive this unremarkable material is to their credit. The film doesn't seem to be able to decide if it's playing the whole thing for comedy or not, despite its tragic conclusion.
