Nov 18, 2009 · "The Messenger" is an empathetic drama about two men who have that job. One is Capt. Tony Stone ( Woody Harrelson ), an old hand at breaking the news. The other is Staff Sgt. Will Montgomery ( Ben Foster ), who was wounded in combat in Iraq and is serving out the last three months of his tour.
User Reviews. 'The Messenger' is powerful and engaging film. Brilliantly acted film depicting two soldiers whose job it is to inform families when loved ones are killed in battle. Harrelson has never been better and Foster more than matches him all the way. It's emotional and engaging and genuinely painful at times.
After being injured in Iraq, soldier Will Montgomery (Ben Foster) returns home to finish the rest of his tour of duty in the Army's Casualty Notification service.
