Founded in New York City on September 17, 1920, the MOC is based on the principals of good humor and fun. Over the past ninety years, the Cooties have provided social and entertainment programs to members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. as an Ancillary unit within the organization.
The Military Order of the Cootie of the United States (MOC, or simply Military Order of the Cootie) is a national honor degree membership association separately constituted as a subordinate and as an auxiliary order chartered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW).

With the outbreak of World War II, the Cooties recognized a need to entertain hospitalized troops and veterans during their confinement and rehabilitation at Veterans Administration facilities throughout the country.
The Military Order of the Cootie (M.O.C.) is the Honor Degree of the Veteran of Foreign Wars of the United States of America (V.F.W.). Born September 1920, the M.O.C. took on many special projects of two special groups of people; hospitalized Veterans and the residents of the V.F.W. National Home in Eaton Rapids, MI.

Jun 28, 2021 · VFWs Cooties Continue to Be 'Busier than a Bee'. Coming off its 100 year of service, the group helped remodel VFW’s National Home for Children last year and is devoted to its mission of comforting hospitalized veterans. June 28, 2021.
Cooties from around the world assemble at Arlington National Cemetery and pay tribute by dedicating wreaths donated by all the Pup Tents and their Auxiliaries to those that have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Membership in the MOC is in recognition of outstanding service to the VFW and its programs, according to its website. Over the past 90 years, the Cooties have provided social and entertainment programs to members of the VFW as an ancillary unit within the organization.
Cooties are dedicated members who perform duties involving the aid to hospitalized veterans and those who are sick or injured, providing blood, visitation, clothing and entertainment at VA medical centers and other non-VA facilities.
