Volapük ( English: / ˈvɒləpʊk /; [2] Volapük [volaˈpyk], 'Language of the World', or lit. 'World Speak') is a constructed language created between 1879 and 1880 by Johann Martin Schleyer, a Catholic priest in Baden, Germany, who believed that God had told him in a dream to create an international language.
It was created in February 2003, [2] but launched in January 2004. [3] As of 27 April 2024, it is the 108th-largest Wikipedia as measured by the number of articles, [4] with about 37,000 articles, and the third-largest Wikipedia in a constructed language after the Esperanto Wikipedia and the Ido Wikipedia. [5]
