Ahmad Ghossein’s All This Victory was a hit with critics and audiences, winning three awards, including the critic’s Grand Prize. Martin Eden by Pietro Marcello was chosen the Best Italian Film at Venice and Pablo Larraín’s Ema was selected Best Film of Venezia 76.

The 76th annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 28 August to 7 September 2019. Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel was the Jury President of the main competition. The Truth, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, was the festival's opening film. The Golden Lion was awarded to Joker, directed by Todd Phillips.
