Oct 22, 2013 · When we talk about age, I think range is a more relevant way to express the spread, and easier to understand for most. For example in a study population, the mean age was 53 (SD 5.4) or the median age was 48 (range 23-77). For that reason, I would prefer to use median rather than mean.
