Feb 23, 2022 · Very old cassettes when sat on their side or underneath other tapes/stuff can have warped plastic that can put the tape itself out of alignment with the head, even if the cassette deck’s tape path is set up fine. (This could explain why some tapes still have problems on a well-set-up deck, while others are fine).
New to cassettes, trying to fix muffled/ warbly sound. I collect a lot of music related stuff and recently got a cassette player for my birthday. Never used one, but got zeppelin 4 and a Jimi Hendrix compilation. Zeppelin 4 randomly has the treble drop out and sometimes sounds out of tune, and other times sounds distorted and just plain bad.

Check for any brown stuff rubbed off on any part of the cassette case, first. Then clean the capstans, rollers, etc... on your deck very well, and play the tape for a bit.

Aug 8, 2017 · 2. I just found some music on a re-recorded second generation old audio cassette tape. The music is distorted on some parts of every track and has low fidelity. I want to improve the quality overall to make it sound the best highest quality possible, by removing as much distortion as possible if not all, and fixing the low fidelity.
