  1. New to cassettes, trying to fix muffled/ warbly sound. I collect a lot of music related stuff and recently got a cassette player for my birthday. Never used one, but got zeppelin 4 and a Jimi Hendrix compilation. Zeppelin 4 randomly has the treble drop out and sometimes sounds out of tune, and other times sounds distorted and just plain bad.

  3. Sep 14, 2017 · Second - mistracking is possible but if the head were to work it's way out of alignment, that is usually a gradual process.make sure the tape seats properly. Make sure the non-adjusting screw of the playback head is secure. It is the one on the right side of the head. I recently picked up a stereo with a built-in cassette and mine was loose.

  4. Fast forward and rewind fully a few times and try again. Warped/slow you are prob describing wow and flutter and that’s usually belts/motor issues. Could be the shell, could be the tape. Most likely it's the shell. If there aren't any screws on the shell then it's quite the destructive process to transfer the tape over.

  5. Sep 20, 2009 · At this point, you have a simple decision: live with the imperfect sound, or erase the tape and record something else on it. It's unlikely, but if the recording you make on the tape still sounds bad when played back on the same good deck it was recorded on, then there is something wrong with the tape itself.

  8. Mar 14, 2017 · Fast forward, and rewind the tape. Then gently smack the tape down on one side several times, then flip it & do that to the other. That will help even out the tape on the reels. If it still drags & squeals, then there are other issues. I did that, and it still drags & squeals. Johnny Reb, Mar 14, 2017.
