I played Ultra Sun for the first and only time only a bit over a year ago, mainly because I disliked most of the new pokemon designs (still do) so I wasn’t interested. I agree the games feel very railroaded early on, but looking at the whole game big picture, it is a good ones.
The main differences are that the internal clock for Ultra Moon is reversed from that of the real world and Ultra Sun (that is, at 9am in the real world, it's 9am in US and 9pm in UM), and some differences in which Pokemon are available in the wild.
