    Once the grandest movie theater in Phoenix, the Fox Theatre was completed in 1931 at Washington and First streets in the "zigzag Moderne" style.     The Hotel Adams was the unofficial meeting place of the Legislature for decades. The hotel was built in 1910 at Adams Street and Central Avenue to replace the original 1896 hotel building, which burned down. The five-story concrete hotel was imploded in the 1970s and replaced by the Renaissance Phoenix Hotel, which recently became a Marriott.

    Completed in 1883 by James Fleming on the northwest corner of Washington Street and First Avenue, this lauded building had a basement bowling alley and lasted almost 100 years. Two rooms of the building were also home to Phoenix's first public library. It was torn down in the 1980s to make way for the high-rise now home to Wells Fargo.
