The Carcano action was not as smooth as a Mauser, but better than the Mosin Nagant. The 6-round Mannlicher clip made from brass or soft steel. They were easier to load than stripper clips and gave the Italians a slight ammo superiority, but also rendered the rifle a single shot if no clips were available.
