Jan 12, 2022 · Santa Clara is a city of nearly 125,000 residents that’s located in Santa Clara County, about 75 kilometers south of San Francisco. The city was founded more than 200 years ago as a Spanish Mission. Now, it’s most well-known for its booming tech industry that’s commonly referred to around the world as Silicon Valley.
It features column free exhibit halls, 22,400 sq. ft. Mission City Ballroom, 607-seat theatre, 31 breakout rooms, and exceptional in-house services. Santa Clara has 3,800+ hotel rooms, a 100-acre theme park, historic mission, championship golf and tennis facility, and is future home of the 49ers new 68,500-seat Santa Clara Stadium.
The city's population was 127,647 at the 2020 census, making it the eighth-most populous city in the Bay Area. Located in the southern Bay Area, the city was founded by the Spanish in 1777 with the establishment of Mission Santa Clara de Asís under the leadership of Junípero Serra .
Santa Clara was given its name from the Mission Santa Clara de Asis, one of the many missions that the Spanish created during their rule in California. Although the mission was founded in 1777, the city was not officially incorporated until 1852, about two years after California received statehood.
