   Even though AOE4 has nowhere near as much content, the differences in playstyle between the Chinese and the Mongols is bigger than any civ difference in AOE2. Every civ in AOE4 is also really authentic, with each of them having unique skins on their units and buildings and their own music, if you like that sort of thing.

   • AoE 2 has way more content both single player campaigns and civilizations you can play. It has aged like a fine wine and there have been plenty of quality of life additions made to the definitive edition for it to play great.    • AoE 4 is more geared towards multiplayer currently there just isn't as much Single player content. It is however easier too pick up and play. It has a great tutorial and because every civilization has more differences you have some interesting diversity. The different land mark choices is a great mechanic.

   • Just to save money, you don’t need to buy aoe2 and try aoe4 on game pass.. both are included in game pass so if you just get that you don’t buy the game twice essentially! You're just here to direct people to AoE2. You don't play AoE4. Only 30 multiplayer games, and your last one was 6 months ago. Whereas, you play AoE2 every day.

   • They are different. Aoe2 is more about execution imo. If you like getting rewarded for following the pre-planned strategy/plan, then this game is for you. There is a pro player who is league above the rest in execution and still catch his opponents off guard, despite just following the exact same build order.

   AoE4 is newer and more streamlined. I think for a new player it is definitely more intuitive. AoE2 has a lot of somewhat hidden mechanics that can be clunky or unintuitive. Oh also the sound design in AoE4 is amazing. Personally the multiplayer gameplay in AoE4 has slightly surpassed AoE2 with the last major update.
