I was arguing with a friend about this, and never agreed, so I came here on reddit to find out. First two albums are punk with varying amounts of reggae. Later albums are a more 'accessible' hard rock with punk aesthetics sound. Post-punk came later, and has a less aggressive, more depressed sound.
