     Imagine you want to fade out an element. The durations are needed because React must wait for the CSS animation to complete before adding/removing the classes and finally removing the element. Otherwise you won'd be able to see the full animation, as the DOM element would be removed immediately.

     If you have a look at this code here: https://github.com/facebook/react/blob/v15.3.2/src/addons/transitions/ReactCSSTransitionGroupChild.js#L95 you can see how React used to try and calculate the timeouts for you. Now that's been deprecated and you're supposed to explicitly tell React the duration of your CSS animations (presumably because guessing has some major overhead/inconsistency.

     To understand the difference you need to understand an important thing about animatable properties. Some of them trigger layout changes and some of them don't.

     A property that trigger a layout change will have an impact on the performance so it's recommended to avoid them as much as possible

     A property that doesn't trigger a layout change will have less impact on the performance and it's recommended to animate them.

     The transition class of tailwind is grouping the second set of properties (the ones that don't trigger layout change) while transition-all group all of them.

     It's better to rely on transition to have good performance and you should avoid as much as possible transition-all but if you are obliged to animate all the properties then use it.

     If you check for color

     you can read:

     Changing color does not trigger any geometry changes, which is good.

     As a side note, transform is the best when it comes to performance. It doesn't trigger layout change and doesn't trigger painting:

     Check your console. When I build and run with these 3 files, I see this:

     (a.exe:30940): Gtk-WARNING **: 17:10:50.844: Theme parsing error: test.css:20:7: 'width' is not a valid property name.

     You probably wanted min-width. That and the Spinner both animate just fine for me after fixing that by replacing both references to width in the CSS with min-width. I also checked that changing the spin animation duration has effect.

     I think it has to do with the filter property. Transition is supported by safari: http://caniuse.com/#feat=css-transitions Also the filter property, but you need to add a prefix: http://caniuse.com/#feat=css-filters Let me know if it helps, if not, provide more details and we will find a workaround.
