Chernin joined Fox in 1989 from Lorimar Film Entertainment, where he was president and chief operating officer. Earlier, he was executive vice president of programming and marketing for Showtime/The Movie Channel. Prior to Showtime, Chernin was vice president of Development and Production at the David Gerber Company.
At the same time, Chernin’s political savvy and ability caught Murdoch’s attention. That year, Murdoch moved Chernin to the ailing 20th Century Fox film studio, which he was credited with turning around.
