Hochschule Karlsruhe – Technik und Wirtschaft, also known as HKA or Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, is a public university of applied sciences founded in 1878. With approximately 7,000 students, HKA is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The University of Karlsruhe was founded as a polytechnical school (Polytechnische Schule) on 7 October 1825. It was modelled on the École polytechnique in Paris. In 1865, Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden raised the school to the status of a Hochschule, an institution of higher education.
