- Plants. Plant life in the Arctic is characterized largely by what grows on the tundra, a vast low growing treeless area of approx. 11.5M km2 that is mainly underlain by permafrost.
Dec 8, 2021 · As mentioned above, Antarctica is a vast continent situated south of the Antarctic Circle and surrounded by the Southern Ocean. This open ocean surrounding the large Antarctic landmass allows the sea ice to move more freely here than in the Arctic.
