It was just 27 years after the U.S. Post Office was born during the American Revolution. Charlie’s claim to fame is he started the first door-to-door postal delivery route in the United States.

The Doylestown Agricultural Works produced farming implements such as the Doylestown Thresher, which won first prize in at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. Over the course of its history, from 1867 to 1967, the company supplied equipment to farmers throughout the United States and abroad, including Peru and Jerusalem.
Currently serving as the Doylestown branch of the Bucks County (Pa.) Free Library, the Melinda Cox Library was Doylestown's first free library. It opened in 1917 through a bequest of Doylestown resident Charles Cox (1832-1914) who left his entire estate to create a community library named after his mother, Melinda Hines Cox (1803-1890).
