The story concerns the plight of plucky young Willard, whose father was cheated out of the family business by the evil Mr. Martin. Willard had counted on inheriting the family concern, but now finds himself a lowly stockboy, the butt of Mr. Martin's cruel jests.
"Willard" is not a scary or gory film, but it does feature some admirably atmospheric sequences, dark & grim set pieces and a masterfully tense climax. The hectically crawling rats are eerie to behold, but still the film primarily relies on good old-fashioned human acting performances.
