Feb 18, 2021 · William Brown was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1836 and joined the US Navy on March 23, 1862. The landsman was assigned to USS Brooklyn in the West Gulf Blockading Squadron. The Brooklyn was a steam screw sloop of war armed with twenty IX-inch Dahlgrens and one X-inch pivot shell gun.
