While death is an inevitable part of life, that fact doesn’t make it any easier when it is reported that someone has died. Legendary Broadway dancer, choreographer and actor Maurice Hines has died at the age of 80.

- Robert Reid. Robert Reid, the former NBA star who played 10 seasons with the Houston Rockets and helped take the franchise to its first two NBA Finals, passed away on Monday following a battle with cancer.
- Janice Burgess. Janice Burgess died March 4, 2024, at 72. Burgess was a TV executive and screenwriter who was best-known for creating the popular Nickelodeon television show “The Backyardigans.”
- Michael Jones. Michael Jones died on February 28, 2024, at the age of 61. Jones was a professional wrestler in the WWF (currently the WWE) who went by the stage name Virgil.
- Robert Reid. Robert Reid died on Feb. 19 at 68. Reid was a 13-year NBA veteran, playing for the Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers, Charlotte Hornets, and Philadephia Sixers.
- Hydeia Broadbent. HIV/AIDS activist Hydeia Broadbent died on Feb. 20 at 39. After getting HIV at the young age of 3, Broadbent was one of the initial children to receive treatment for HIV/AIDs.
- Richard Hunt, artist. Famous Chicago artist Richard Hunt has died at the age of 88, which AP confirmed. According to a statement posted on his website, Hunt “passed away peacefully” at his home on Dec.
- Ellen Holly, actress. Ellen Holly, whose role on ABC’s hit soap opera One Life To Live made her the first Black actor to lead a daytime TV show, died on Dec.
- Aaron Spears, drummer. Aaron Spears, a Grammy-nominated drummer who played with Usher, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and other major pop stars, died on Oct.
- Richard Roundtree, actor. Legendary actor Richard Roundtree, whose career in Hollywood kicked off the “Blaxploitation” era of films credited in part for changing the trajectory of movie roles for leading Black male actors, died of pancreatic cancer on Oct.
