In 1975, Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods continued to release singles for a variety of labels but unfortunately none of them became a hit. By 1978, the band was known as “The Bo Donaldson Band” and switched to country music but achieved no success. They eventually split up in the 1980’s.
Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods reunited in 1996 as a nostalgia act and were engaged in some appearances which included Original Idols Live, a nostalgia show hosted by Barry Williams. That same year Varese Vintage Records also released a compilation called Best of Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods.
May 10, 2024 · History. The band was formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1965 by their leader, Robert Walter "Bo" Donaldson. They were first discovered while touring with The Osmonds in the early 1970s and signed with Family Productions, releasing their first single in 1972, "Special Someone", but their big break came after moving to ABC Records and working with the record producer Steve Barri in 1973.
An opening stint for The Osmond Brothers and appearances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and "Action '73" TV shows poised Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods into the right realm for the stardom they would soon achieve. The first single, "Special Someone," hit the charts in 1972 then the next single "Deeper and Deeper' came in 1973.
