We make it easy to submit a meter reading. Providing an up to date meter reading will ensure you’re receiving accurate bills and paying the right amount for your energy. You don't need to submit any readings if you have a Smart meter or Pay As You Go meter.
You can submit your opening meter reading online. You’ll need to enter your email address, account number and postcode. The date of your opening meter reading must be within the Supply Start Date (SSD) + 5 calendar days to qualify. You can find the SSD on your welcome letter.
There are several ways to provide a meter reading to us: Online : If you have an online account, please login here and click ‘Meter readings’ then follow the instructions. If you don’t have an online account you can submit meter readings here by clicking ‘Not yet online’.
If British Gas fitted your Smart Gas meter: The screen will probably be off. Press the red button to wake it up. Once it says Credit On you can press the red button again.
