I have kayaked most rivers in the Pine Barrens. Overall, I prefer the Mullica for its length and diversity. But the Oswego- be it OS-SWAY-GO or OS-SWEE-GO - has caught my breath. Wow! It is unbelievable..the Atlantic white cedars that line the banks from Oswego Lake to Martha Pond are so dense, I feel like I am kayaking with Frodo Baggins on the Ri...

An occasional sign will warn you not to trespass. The beginning and end of the route are state forest lands. No one is going to hassle you about stopping for lunch or reli...

  4. Harrisville Pond and Oswego Lake are active for picnicking and swimming. Experienced canoeists may want to use the river on weekends only when livery operators say the water is low. Appropriately, the Oswego was called the Wading River in the days when the present Wading River was called Speedwell Creek.

  5. Jun 3, 2013 · The Oswego River in the New Jersey Pine Barrens is one of the prettiest rivers you can kayak. If you want to canoe it, it is best to do it in the spring after a lot a rain because it is generally too shallow for canoes in the summer. Since kayaks need less water, that is the better option. It winds through a beautiful forest.
