The SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University (formally The State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn) is a public medical school in Brooklyn, New York City. The university includes the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, School of Health Professions, School of Graduate Studies and School of Public Health.
Our roots date back to 1860, when, as the Long Island College of Medicine, Downstate became the first medical school to introduce bedside teaching to medical students in the United States.
We offer MS, MPH and MHA degree programs in occupational therapy, medical informatics and public health. Our doctoral-level programs prepare research medical scientists, medical doctors, public health and nursing professionals.
