I found a solution just now. When you click the reply button and go to a different point in the conversation, you should see your username in bold on the left, and then on the right you should see a BELL (notifications) and a gear wheel (settings). At least this is the case on a Chrome web browser on a PC.

Logging into Facebook is easy. All you need to do is visit the Facebook website or open the Facebook app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Then, enter the phone number or email address you used to sign up, along with your password. If you signed up for Facebook with an email address, you’ll need to verify your email address before you can log in for the first time. If you didn’t get a verification email when you signed up, check your spam or junk mail folder to see if it ended up there.

tab at the top of your inbox or look for it in the
menu on the left side of the page.
Once you find the verification email, click the link in the email to confirm your address. After that, you should be able to log in.
