The Anglican Episcopal family comprises tens of millions Christians who are members of 46 different Churches. These make up 42 member churches (also called provinces) and five other national or local churches known as Extra Provincials, spread across the globe.
The efficacy of their decision to recognize the ACNA as genuinely Anglican is seen in the fruit that many of the Provinces of the Communion—and certainly the vast majority of the world’s active Anglicans—not only share Holy Communion with the ACNA, but they also share in ministry together.
The Anglican Communion is the third largest Christian communion after the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. Formally founded in 1867 in London, the communion has more than 85 million members within the Church of England and other autocephalous national and regional churches in full communion.
