Billy Claiborne (October 21, 1860 – November 14, 1882) was an American outlaw, cowboy, drover, miner, and gunfighter in the American Old West. He killed James Hickey in a confrontation in a saloon, but it was ruled self-defense.
Billy Claiborne, a member of the notorious Clanton Gang of Tombstone, Arizona, was an outlaw cowboy, miner, and gunfighter. He was killed in a gunfight with “Buckskin Frank” Leslie.
In Tombstone at the time of the gunfight were five members of the Cowboys: Billy Claiborne, brothers Ike and Billy Clanton, and brothers Tom and Frank McLaury. During that brief battle, three men were killed, three were wounded, two ran away, and one fought but was unharmed.

Billy Claiborne was killed in an altercation outside the Oriental Saloon in Tombstone on November 14, 1882, by Franklyn Leslie. Leslie shot Claiborne in self-defense after Leslie refused Claiborne's drunken demands that he call him the new "Billy the Kid." Claiborne was 22 years old when he died. [85] He was buried in Tombstone's Boothill Cemetery.
