As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,355, making it the fourth-least populous county in North Carolina. Its county seat is Camden. The Camden County Commissioners are the governing body for Camden County. Each commissioner serves a four-year term. Terms are staggered so that three Commissioners are elected in one even-numbered year and the remaining two Commissioners are elected in the following even-numbered year.
Camden County is the first and only consolidated city-county in the State of North Carolina, and it's county seat is the Courthouse Township of Camden. Camden County achieved this status in June of 2006, and became a Unified Government as of July 1, 2006.

Camden’s History. Camden County was formed in 1777 and was named for Charles Pratt, First Lord of Camden. The historic Camden Jailhouse is a two-story brick structure, rebuilt after a fire in 1910.
