Claire Louise van Kampen, Lady Rylance (born 3 November 1953) is an English director, composer and playwright. She composed the music for Mark Rylance's 1989 performance as Hamlet and shared the 2007 Sam Wanamaker Award with him.
Claire van Kampen was composer and music director of the A.R.T. productions of Hamlet and The Seagull in 1991. She began her theater career with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1986, followed by work at the Royal National Theatre in 1987, becoming the first woman to be a musical director with either company.
BIOGRAPHY. Claire van Kampen originally trained at the Royal College of Music in London. Studying music theory with Dr. Ruth Gipps, and piano with Peter Element, she specialised in the performance of 20 th century music, premiering many works by today‘s leading composers.
