Joseph Gallo (April 7, 1929 – April 7, 1972), also known as "Crazy Joe", was an Italian-American mobster and Caporegime of the Colombo crime family of New York City, New York.. In his youth, Gallo was diagnosed with schizophrenia after an arrest. He soon became an enforcer in the Profaci crime family, later forming his own crew which included his brothers Larry and Albert.
Crazy Joe is a 1974 crime film directed by Carlo Lizzani and produced by Dino De Laurentiis.The Italian-American co-production is a fictionalized account of the murder of Joseph "Crazy Joe" Gallo, a mobster who was gunned down on April 7, 1972, at a restaurant in Little Italy. The screenplay by Lewis John Carlino is based on a series of articles by journalist Nicholas Gage.

The mob life of 'Crazy Joe' Gallo. This is fairly good mobster movie with some reasonably gritty moments that have aged like the 70s fashions. It mixes the simplistic gangster narrative that you would see in 30s and 40s movies, with a low budget vibe of 70s New York.
