God is God and He works all things, including your life, according to his purposes. Nothing can happen without God ordaining it. Psalm 57:2 says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” This is key in understanding God’s purpose for your life. God has numbered your days and will fulfill every purpose He has for you.
What is a divine purpose? Your divine purpose is basically your reason for being here. Whether or not you believe in a God, the power of the Universe, or you just take comfort in believing that your life has meaning, your purpose is your reason for being on this earth.
- 1 is that God be glorified. If you speak, speak as an oracle (a mouthpiece) of God, so that God, not you, will receive glory.
- 2 is that Jesus be preeminent in all things. This is Jesus’ creation — “By him all things were created.” Jesus is “before all things”.
- 3 is to build the Church of Jesus Christ. Building the Church is not all that the Lord is doing. But it is central to all that He is doing.
- 4 is to purify a godly people for Himself. Jesus longs for “a people... for Himself.” What an honor! But not just “any old” people.
