Today, Fort San Pedro is a fusion of a park which serves as an oasis in the middle of a bustling city and a museum where visitors can learn a great deal about the history of Cebu and the beginnings of the Spanish rule in the Philippines.
Part of the fort currently houses a museum. The fort houses legacies of the Spanish government: well preserved Spanish artefacts such as Spanish documents, paintings and sculpture. Fort San Pedro is the oldest and smallest fort in the Philippines, and it is one of the most famous Cebu heritage sites. It is a staple for field trips, dates, picnics, and even wedding receptions. Located in the middle of the metro, you can easily access the fort whilst visiting other famous attractions within the area.
Fort San Pedro also has a museum inside. This museum isn’t very large but it houses a couple of gorgeous paintings, models of the ships that the Spaniards used to come to Cebu and the original flag that was taken from one of the crew members during the battle of Manila Bay on 13 th August 1898.
Today's partly ruined structure, dating from the late 18th century, includes an impressive gateway, a small section of ramparts and a small museum. Its peaceful walled garden is a perfect retreat from the chaos and madness of downtown Cebu, especially at sunset.
